The laboratory has 3 PCs dedicated for the student use. Additionally, the lab has also 20 licenses of associated software such as SYNOPSYSs TCAD for process modeling and device modeling on the College Application Server, which can be accessed from any UNIX station. The course, which uses this lab, is ECG 450L Solid State Characterization laboratory. The lab course also trains the students in the use of the Scanning Electron Microscope (Geoscience Department) and the xray diffraction system (Physics Department).
ALDEC Digital System Design Laboratory (TBE B348)
The ALDEC laboratory is composed of twelve (12) student workstations. The computer workstations, VHDL hardware and VHDL software were provided to the Department by the ALDEC Corporation in FY 1999. These PCs are Gateway P2 350 MHz with 19 monitors. A quad processor Intel NT workstation was donated by the Nevada Power Company in FY 2001. This workstation was implemented as a server for the lab in FY 2002. Five additional DELL computers, P3 733 MHz with 21 monitors were received in FY 2004 from the College surplus. TBEC B348 is a multiple usage laboratory. Upgrading the computers in this lab is one of the top priorities for the next fiscal year. It is used for several courses and laboratories, which are core for computer engineering: ECG 402 Microprocessor Systems Design, ECG 403 Embedded Systems and 410 Digital System Design using Hardware Description Language: HDL.
General Undergraduate Laboratory (TBE B350)
TBE B350 is a multiple usage laboratory. It is used for a variety of courses, laboratories and outreach activities. The lab courses taught in this facility are: ECG 190 ECE Freshman Design, ECG 200L Computer Logic Design Laboratory, ECG 221L Circuits II Laboratory, ECG 300L Digital System Design Laboratory, ECG 320L Engineering Electronics I Laboratory, ECG 421L Computer Electronics Laboratory, ECG 420L Engineering Electronics II laboratory, ECG 470L Feedback and Controls Laboratory, and ECG 480L Digital Signal Processing Laboratory. The B350 lab also serves as the Independent Study (ECG 491) and Senior Design laboratory (ECG 497 and 498) courses.
In order for optimal use of space, equipment and time, the physical lab space is divided in to three sections, lower division, upper division and instructional space. The lower division section has 12 student lab stations and is primarily used for ECG 200L and ECG 221L. The upper division section has seven student stations and supports courses ECG3XXL and ECG 4XXL. The lower division lab stations are equipped with Tektronix TDS 2014 Oscilloscope. The upper division lab stations are equipped with HP 54645D Oscilloscope/ logic analyzer and Tektronix TDS510A DSO. All stations are equipped with these basic test equipments:
Tektronix CDM-250 multimeter
Instek GFG-3015 function generator
Instek GPS-3303-3ch power supply
Gateway and Dell PCs with monitor (Windows professional, MATLAB, Pspice, Electronic Workbench)
The upper division stations are equipped with Tektronix TDS-510A DSO or Tektronix 2221 DSO and a HP 5465D Oscilloscope/Logic Analyzer.
